In the context of the Hindu law reform movement


The Bangladesh government has not taken any initiative to reform Hindu law. No one in the government has said they will amend the law or are going to do so.  Some of us are campaigning on social media demanding Hindu law reform and holding talks with prominent people in the society to build an organization.

In this situation an anti-women's rights, anti-human rights extremist Hindu group has organized a human chain in front of the National Press Club last Friday against the Hindu law reform.They have tried to mobilize people by spreading the word that there will be protests against attacks and torture on minority communities in different parts of the country.  Even then, only 219 people attended their program. They do not represent Hindu society. There is no reason to be distracted by their program. Their protest program was the result of immature thinking.  Because they are fighting against the wind. They themselves do not know who they are fighting for.

What is the stage of turning the crazy stick against the wind!  Understandably, the reactionary force feared our ongoing campaign through social media. They have taken the needs of the society and our possible emergence as an organized force.  So, for the time being, he has started fighting with the wind. We have the opportunity to be encouraged.

We have started a group on Facebook called "Hindu Law Reform Movement". I urge all people under Hindu law to join this group.  We want to eliminate all kinds of inconsistencies including gender inequality by amending the customary Hindu law prevailing in Bangladesh.


 1. Establishment of justice: It is wrong to deprive someone of the rights they deserve as human beings. Existing laws have given men exclusive authority. Women and people of the third sex have been deprived of dignity and rights in many ways.Therefore, Hindu law needs to be amended to establish justice.

 2.Improvement: If equal rights and dignity are established, women will be economically, socially and family empowered. The development of the backward half of the society will lead to the development of human resources and financial resources. As a result, the Hindu community and the country will improve.

 3. Strengthening: Hindu families will be stronger if women in the family are not dependent but self-reliant and self-respecting.  Women's education will increase and women will become more efficient in managing households and resources. Women will not be "helpless". The advancement of women's power will provide additional power to the society - a power that has been suppressed for so long.

 4. Dignity enhancement: If women and heterosexuals are given equal rights and dignity by amending the law, the dignity of Hindu society will increase in the world assembly. Hindus will be in the forefront in the civilized world. Hindus will be a role model for communities that are governed by discriminatory laws and policies.

 5. Complexity of the case:There are ambiguities, ambiguities, contradictions and inconsistencies in the ancient laws as they are not codified. Different court rulings and conflicts with modern state laws and regulations also make it difficult to handle cases in court. Therefore, it is necessary to amend, clarify, modernize and legalize Hindu law.

 . Amendments to the law in different countries: What is prevalent in Bangladesh in the name of Hindu law is not a religious law.  There are different customary Hindu laws in different parts of Bangladesh.  In India also different Hindu laws were introduced in different regions. In India, Nepal and Mauritius, equal rights have been established by amending Hindu laws. If Hindu law was a necessary condition of religion, those Hindu-majority countries would not amend the law.

 . Establishment of the core consciousness of religion: The existing Hindu law deviates and distorts from the core consciousness of traditional religion and Buddhism.  Keeping women powerless, disenfranchised, weak and dependent and discriminating against people on the basis of gender is against both traditional and Buddhist religions. In traditional religion, woman is seen as the abode and source of power of Jaganmata. Women are manifestations of Goddess Durga in many forms; The power of creation, status and destruction. God is omnipotent and omnipresent. To think of a strong woman as powerless and weak;  It is against the religion to consider women as "helpless" and to legally shelter men. The real awakening of mother power is needed for the awakening of people and religion.

 . Protecting the Hindu community: Due to discrimination and deprivation of women, Hindu women in Bangladesh are sometimes tempted by people of other religions to convert. Many lose the ability to make the right decisions because they are meaningless, without money, without rights, without self-confidence, dependent, talented, mentally and legally weak. Some of them are confused by the lies of people of different religions.

Giving women equal rights will empower them.  It is not easy to confuse a person with self-confidence. As a result, it will be difficult to get married or convert by forgetting or forcibly taking it away. Moreover, if women are equal partners in inheritance, they will also have the fear of losing wealth. Because according to the law, if someone converts, he is deprived of inheritance.  This will protect the decaying Hindu community of Bangladesh.
