Without UNO in the case of Barisal Compromise

Finally the incident of attack on the house of Munibur Rahman (UNO) Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Barisal Sadar was resolved through compromise. A compromise meeting was held in the presence of the mayor and senior officials of the district administration and police.  Everyone smiled as both sides accepted the issue as a misunderstanding.  However, UNO was not present at the meeting.  The meeting was held at 10:30 pm on Sunday (August 22) at the residence of the Barisal Divisional Commissioner.

District Awami League general secretary Talukdar said at the meeting. "There was a misunderstanding," Yunus said. That misunderstanding is over. And so that such incidents do not happen, the issue has been discussed in detail.

City Mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, Divisional Commissioner Saiful Islam Badal, DIG Akhtaruzzaman, Police Commissioner Shahabuddin Khan, Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin Haider, Superintendent of Police Maruf Hossain and President Awami League President Government Advocate AKM Jahangir and other officials were present on the occasion.

Incidentally, on Wednesday (August 18) at 10:30 pm, 20 to 25 employees of Barisal City Corporation went to the Upazila Parishad area on C&B Road in the city and started removing the greeting banners of the leaders of different political parties.  At the time, Ansar members engaged in the security of UNO offices and government residences wanted to know their identities. Then they came in the morning and asked to work. At that time, the responsible Ansar members got into an argument with the employees of the city corporation. Upon receiving the news, more than a hundred leaders and activists of Awami League, Juba League and Chhatra League went there. Later, they had a quarrel with the Ansar members.  Mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah was also present.  At that time, the leaders and activists threw brickbats at the UNO's house.  Ansar members fired to control the situation.  Seven people, including the OC and the panel mayor, were shot dead in the attack and clashes.  Besides, at least 30 people were injured in the police baton charge.

UNO and police filed a case against more than 600 Awami League leaders and activists, including the mayor. 22 of them are in jail. The judge directed the PIB to investigate when the mayor later filed a complaint against more than a hundred people, including UNO and OC.
