Juba League leader Shahin Bhuiyan and Chhatra League leader DJ Kalam led the attack on mosque worshipers in Muradnagar

In Muradnagar Cumilla Shahin Bhuiyan a member of Bangra Bazar Thana Juba League and Kalam Khan joint general secretary of Chhatra League of the same thana led an attack on Friday prayers at the mosque and one person was killed. At least six others including one seriously injured were injured in the incident.

In a complaint filed with the police the names of Kalam Khan Prakash DJ Kalam joint general secretary of Bangra Bazar Thana Chhatra League and Shahin Bhuiyan a member of the same Thana Juba League have been mentioned. Due to this the police were able to arrest Juba League leader Shahin Bhuiyan from the spot but so far they have not been able to arrest the BCL leader and others involved. But police say efforts to arrest them continue.

The incident took place at noon on Friday at the Kurakhal Mosque under Bangra Bazar police station in Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla district.

Bangra Bazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Kamruzzaman Talukder said there was a huge clash between the two groups over whether to deliver the Friday prayers at the Kurakhal Mosque on Friday afternoon.  At least 6 to 7 people were injured in the incident.

When the injured were taken to Muradnagar Upazila Health Complex a man named Abu Hanif Khan (45) died there and another named Abul Khair was sent to Dhaka in critical condition.  The deceased was identified as Abu Hanif Khan, son of Abdu Khan of Kurakhal village.

Chairman of Bangra West Union Mohammad Ruhul Amin said the worshipers of Kurakhal Central Jame Mosque are divided into two groups. There has been a long-running dispute between them over various issues of the mosque. The incident took place on Friday.

OC Kamruzzaman Talukder said one person involved in the incident has been arrested and efforts are underway to arrest others involved.
