Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif mourns the death of Advocate Baset Majumdar


Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League, has expressed deep grief over the death of Abdul Baset Majumder, a senior Supreme Court lawyer, member of the Bangladesh Awami League's advisory council, former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association and former vice-chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council.

Hanif expressed his grief in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.

At the same time, Hanif prayed for the forgiveness of the soul of the deceased and conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and said, "I am deeply saddened by the death of Baset Majumdar."

Abdul Baset Majumder, a member of the Awami League's advisory council and a senior Supreme Court lawyer. He was the former vice chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council and the former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder has performed his professional duties with utmost honesty and devotion.  He has been instrumental in establishing the rule of law and ensuring justice for the people.

He has always assisted the court in important legal matters.  He was universally respected.  He was widely known as a lawyer for the poor.  He has collaborated with junior lawyers all the time. The nation will always remember him with reverence.

His untimely departure is an irreparable loss to the nation.  The country lost a patriotic, meritorious child.  The Hon'ble Prime Minister lost his long-tested comrade-in-arms.

I wish peace to the soul of the deceased and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.

Abdul Baset Majumder died at the United Hospital in the capital around 8:15 am on Wednesday. He was the father of two sons and two daughters. One of his sons is a Supreme Court lawyer. One girl is working as a doctor.

Lawyer Saeed Ahmed Raja, son of Baset Majumdar, confirmed the information.  His janaza prayers were held at the National Eidgah Maidan around 2.30 pm on Wednesday (October 28).

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Law Minister Anisul Haque, Animal Resources Minister Sham Rezaul Karim, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, State Minister for Aviation Mahbub Ali, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, Awami League  Presidium members Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Awami Central Organizing Secretary Ahmed Hossain and Advocate Afzal Hossain among others.

Judges of both the divisions of the Supreme Court, senior lawyers, lawyers and leaders of different levels of the Awami League took part.

Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi and Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua were present at the occasion.

Before the janaza, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Law Minister Anisul Haque, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin and lawyer Saeed Ahmed Raja, the youngest son of the late, spoke.

Ruhul Quddus Kajal, secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, conducted the janaza.

Later, flowers were laid at the coffin of the deceased.  Now he is buried in his village Laksam in Cumilla after Janaza.
