Zia Museum is in the process of removing the transmitter of the Declaration of Independence: Dr. Murad

‘I hope that the historical transmitter used to declare our great independence from Chittagong Zia Memorial Museum will be immediately transferred to Kalurghat Radio Station in Chittagong. ‘

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting on Thursday afternoon.  Murad Hasan expressed this hope at an exchange of views with officials of Regional Information Office (PID), District Information Office and Bangladesh Betar at Chittagong Circuit House.

The state minister said that when the Pakistani aggressors started indiscriminate genocide against unarmed Bengalis in Kalora on March 25, 1971, in the early hours of March 26, undisputed leader of Bengal Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared independence of Bangladesh which was first broadcast through this transmitter.  Later, MA Hannan, General Secretary of Awami League, Chittagong, read out the Declaration of Independence in the name of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

In the post-independence period, this historic transmitter was transferred from Kalurghat radio station in Chittagong to Zia Memorial Museum.

Dr. Murad Hasan said, this transmitter is a historical part of our great liberation war.  An integral part of the history of Bangladesh.  During the war of liberation, Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra was operated through this transmitter.

The historic transmitter is currently under the Ministry of Culture. The transfer of the transmitter from the Zia Memorial Museum to the Kalurghat radio station in Chittagong is in the process of being removed through inter-ministerial discussions.
