Textbooks include declaration of independence: High Court directs formation of expert committee

The High Court has directed to form an expert committee on the inclusion of textbooks of all types of educational institutions in the declaration of independence and inclusion in the declaration to prevent distortion of history.

The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order on Monday (December 13).

The committee has been asked to report within 90 days.

Lawyers Nahid Sultana Juthi and ABM Shahjahan Akand Masum were in favor of the petition. Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar represented the state.

Earlier, Supreme Court lawyer Uttam Laheri had filed the writ petition on December 2.

In the writ petition, 10 persons including cabinet secretary, secretary of secondary and higher education department, secretary of technical and madrasa education department, secretary of primary and mass education, secretary of public security department of home ministry and IGP have been named as defendants.

The writ petition seeks directions to take legal action against those who deny the Declaration of Independence.
