Journalist killed in road accident, mourning in Cumilla

Shariful Alam Chowdhury, Comilla Bureau: Habibur Rahman (35) a senior journalist of the daily Shomoyer Alo was killed in a road accident at Hatirjheel in the capital. He was a journalist of Awami League Beat of Shomoyer Alo newspaper.

It is learned that Habibur Rahman's house is in Manara village of Brahmanpara upazila of Cumilla district. Father's name is Md. Pierre Mia. He was a graduate of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Dhaka University. Habib along with his family lived at 5 / A Johra Manzil in Hatirjheel area. He is the father of one child.

Mourning began among the family of the deceased after a colleague named Masood reported the news of the death on his mobile phone at the house of Habib from the spot on Tuesday morning.

A man saw Habibur lying on the sidewalk injured in a road accident in Hatirjheel around 2.30 pm on Tuesday. He later admitted him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.  Shortly afterwards, he died at 3:15 pm while undergoing treatment.

Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital Police Outpost (in-charge) Inspector. Bachchu Mia confirmed the death and said that a pedestrian rescued the journalist from Hatirjheel at midnight and brought him to Dham. According to the pedestrian, Habibur Rahman was lying injured on the sidewalk next to the Akij building in Hatirjheel. He was later rescued and taken to hospital where he died.
